The first unit is to make a link between the previous years and the three years to come.
First part: Creating a poster
The students have to make seven groups (families) of four or three. They receive a file with information concerning their avatar.

Their first task is to select four pictures which best represent their home country (India, Australia, the USA, England, Scotland, Ireland, South Africa) and to write a caption for the pictures.
Second part: Attending to city councils
They have to attend to city councils.

In each family one part has to write a mail to the mayor (Mr Olson, my alias for the project) or the other part has to discuss with me.

Third part: Choosing their house
They have to look at the map and to explain which house they have chosen:
In this part, we use the vocabulary of places in a city, the structures of justification, wishes
Fourth part: Organizing the barbecue
They have to meet their new neighbours by asking them questions or answering others’ questions to complete a document.
And then they have to write a letter to their relatives who stayed in their home country to explain their new life.
In this part, we revise the structures of the questions and the basics of introducing oneself. And I also help them to write their letters by doing an individualized coaching in the writing process done during the last lesson.
