3D: To what extent is it important to get involved nowadays?

In this project we will see the causes and impacts of natural, man-made disasters or human crimes and how we can react against them and then if solidarity is possible today.

Mission 1: What are the possible disasters nowadays?

They work on a workcloud about disasters and they have to find three categories ( natural – man-made – human crimes).

Then they have to look at pictures and they have to match words and disasters

Each group has to write a paragraph to sum up that and they also have to prepare an oral presentation.

Mission 2: What can we do when we have to face with a natural disaster?

We discuss about the question and we discuss about the elements to consider when we are confronted to a natural disaster ( description – impact – testimonies). They are going to create testimonies. But to do that they explain the kinds of documents we need to consider.

They have to read an article about “Katrina”. First we anticipate from the title what we can find in this document. Then they read by group ( who – where – when). They have to write a paragraph to explain the document and they have to prepare an oral presentation.

Then we recap about the text. After that we watch a video explaining the disaster and we explain two parts difficult in the text ( the Superdome and the chaotic aftermath)

In each group they have to read testimonies and they have to explain them to the others to speak about the bad consequences. And once again they write a paragraph and an oral presentation.

At home they have to watch a testimony and to make a French summary about it.

They have to choose one of the four situations (snow tempest in New York – tsunami in Haiti – flood in Great Britain – earthquake in San Francisco) and they have to create testimonies (written or oral) as if they were special correspondents.
